The Toxicity of Methanol

As we all known, Methanol is toxic by two mechanisms. First, methanol (whether it enters the body by ingestion, inhalation, or absorption through the skin) can be fatal due to its CNS depressant properties in the same manner as ethanol poisoning.

Second, in a process of toxication, it is metabolized to formic acid via formaldehyde in a process initiated by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase in the liver.

Methanol has a high toxicity in humans. Methanol's effects take hours to start, and effective antidotes can often prevent permanent damage. Due to its similarities in both appearance and odor to ethanol (the alcohol in beverages), it is difficult for us to differentiate between the two denatured alcohol.

The Application of Potassium Metavanadate

Potassium metavanadate is mainly used in dyeing & printing on woolens and staining wood black manuf, Vanadium black & indelible ink, It akso used in producing Vanadium luster on poltery, as photographic developer in hematoxylin staining in microscopy as reagent in analytical chemistry.

Potassium metavanadate(KVO3) with toxicity. If contact with skin it will irritate the skin and mucous membranes.  

In catalyst industry, Potassium metavanadate can be used for sulfuric acid. Potassium metavanadate also used for aborption of ultraviolett light in glass industry.
